The 2024 “Oak Hill” is a precise and mineral-driven expression of Riesling. The vineyard sits on a north-facing slope, defined by clay loam soils strewn with shale and quartz fragments, contributing both structural tension and a distinctive mineral signature to the wine.
Fruit was harvested in the cool of the morning to preserve natural acidity and aromatic clarity, then handled with gentle extraction, including careful pressing to avoid phenolic harshness while capturing purity of juice.
The clarified juice was fermented across a combination of stainless steel, ceramic, and one neutral French oak barrel, each vessel playing a distinct role in shaping the final wine. Stainless steel preserves brightness and aromatic precision; ceramic enhances texture and mid-palate flow; while the neutral oak component adds subtle roundness without imparting overt flavour.
Fermentation proceeded at cool temperatures, building complexity while maintaining varietal definition. The wine was then held on fine lees for a short period to build palate weight and integration, without diminishing the variety’s hallmark vibrancy.
Minimal fining and filtration were applied prior to bottling. The resulting wine shows lifted citrus, green apple and floral notes, underpinned by a fine chalky texture and a distinct mineral line, reflecting both the north-facing aspect and the shale and quartz-rich soils. A focused, dry style with bright acidity and length, true to the MADA Wines approach and the purity of a site we farm ourselves.
